Paul Hames

President/Chair of the Board

Paul Hames of Brentwood Bay, BC was elected to the Board of Federated Co-operatives Limited in 2021 and was elected as President/Chair of the Board in 2025. He is one of three directors elected by District 2, which is comprised of 20 Co-operatives located in Alberta and British Columbia. Paul has primary responsibility for six Co-operatives within District 2.

As an FCL Director, Paul is a member of the Governance Committee and serves as ex-officio on all other Board Committees. In addition, Paul is the Board’s representative to The Co-operators, Co-operative Superannuation Society and the Canadian Centre for the Study of Co-operatives.

Before joining the FCL Board, Paul served as a Director on Peninsula Co-op's Board for 18 years, eight as president of the Board. He served on all committees, which included Finance, Governance, Member Relations, Planning, Mergers and Amalgamation, and Nominations.

Paul earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology (with Distinction) from the University of Alberta and a Master of Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University. Paul has extensive conflict management experience. He is a trained mediator/negotiator and received advanced negotiation training at Harvard University. He obtained his ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors (Rotman School of Management - Haskayne Business School Calgary). Paul has completed the full complement of FCL Governance courses and has received is Co-opDirector.D designation.

Paul is proud to have been a police officer for many years contributing to the safety and sustainability of Canadian communities. He has been awarded the Order of Merit of the Police Forces (M.O.M.), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the RCMP Long Service Medal.

Paul loves to travel with his family, hike, explore back roads on his motorcycle and most recently has taken up boating.
