Garth Weiterman of Outlook, SK, was first elected to the FCL Board in 2023. He is one of the directors elected by District 4 which is comprised of 36 member co-ops in Saskatchewan. Garth has primary responsibility for 14 member co-ops.
As an FCL Director, Garth is the Chair of the Board's Sustainability Committee and is also a representative to The Co-operators for Saskatchewan.
Garth joined the Riverbend Co-op Board of Directors in 2017, serving as secretary from 2018 to 2020 and board chair from 2020 to 2023. He has proudly been a member of Riverbend Co-op for over 40 years. Garth received the Co-op Director designation in 2022 and has completed all three levels of FCL’s Director Development Program.
Garth is a professional agrologist who spent his 36 plus year career with the Saskatchewan Irrigation Branch certifying lands for irrigation development throughout the province and managing the agronomy section responsible for applied irrigation research. During this time, he also farmed, both dryland at Morse, SK and had an irrigation farm in SSRID #1. His family continues to have an active interest in their century farm.
Garth and his wife Maureen reside in Outlook, SK. Garth’s passion for agriculture extends to his role as chair of the Outlook Community Garden and Food Forest established in 2019 and 2022 respectively. He has been a member of the River Plains Growing Project with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank for 16 years and counting. Garth is a past chair of the Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute’s Board of Regents and has served on church council in several capacities. Garth is also active with his local Legion Branch, as well as Equinox theatre, playing supporting roles both on and off stage. In their spare time, Garth and Maureen love to travel and spend time with their children and two granddaughters.
